Terry Fox Run

This morning we all woke up not too bright ( in my case) but early to join the Terry Fox Run in Lake Gardens. The kids wanted very much to do this so instead of church this sunday morning,we donned our shorts and t-shirts and off we go. Didnt expect the massive jam, all going to the Lake Gardens but we got there in time. Headed off to get our Terry Fox t-shirts, together with roughly 4,000 other people! What a sight to behold! Met a few friends along the way, one of them a fellow church member! The atmosphere was festive, helped along with a stage show with Yasmin Yusuff as the mc and bouncy castles for the kids. We stood around just soaking in the atmosphere, fascinated by just watching people with all walks of life, young and old. Alex and Daddy wanted to do the long walk, so Amanda, Adam and mummy went separately on the family walk ( which is about slightly more than 3 km). We started off, Adam on the stroller, mum and Amanda taking turns to push him. It wasnt really a run as it was so full of people so it was more like a walk through the park. Up and down hilly roads, with marshals at different checkpoints cheering us on. Water was provided at different check points too.

Halfway through the run, I got a phone call from dad and Alex asking us where we are. They have reached!!! They were pushed along by the crowd of people at the starting point and ended up taking the family route too! With was just as well as Alex hurt his toes and was limping a bit. We ended the walk about an hour later, not as tired as I thought it would be which was good! We hanged around having some breakfast and watching a very interesting band perform some good music. We even got up to groove a little. Well, mum and dad did, to the horror of the two older kids who by now have started to beg us to bring them home!

I hope that the organisers manage to raise lots of money. And I hope that it has been a memorable time for the family. This is our first and probably wont be the last run together as a family. It was good fun for a good cause. A great day!
