Adam's football party

Adam turns 5 on April 21st. We are celebrating his birthday today...and the birthday boy requested for a football party. So, in an hour's time, we are heading to the futsal court nearby. He has invited boys and girls from school and church - altogether about 15 kids.

When he first voiced his request for a football party, I was a bit apprehensive. Don't know whether the girls are keen on it. I didnt say anything to Adam. I thought it is his birthday so he has the right to want to have the kind of party he enjoys.

Anyway, to my surprise, after we decided about football party, a few days later...he suddenly said, mummy, please bring some barbie dolls along for the party. The girls won't want to play football so they can play with the dolls!

* Smile*

I told him....don't worry la....girls can also play football ma....

A few days ago, one of the girls invited to the party decided football is not her thing and she told her mum she doesnt want to come. Mum told me and I said its perfectly OK.

I told Adam that his gal friend is not coming... and he said....SEE, I TOLD YOU! I TOLD YOU TO BRING BARBIE DOLLS!

Girls nowadays are really so into princess and dolls etc. I seriously don't remember to be so extremely incline when I was this age. And boys....no pink shirt or shorts.

It's funny....

Africa...

I was teaching about African American music in music class today. I showed the kids pictures of people, clothes, instruments from Africa.

One child asked, why are the people so dark?

Before I can answer, another child piped in.....because they don't have umbrellas in Africa!

Kids....

Imagine That

Hi folks, I overheard a mum in class today talking to another mum. She complained that she observed that her son is not as enthusiastic as his classmates when it comes to doing activities in class.

Mums and dads, each kid has their own learning style. Some are visual learners ( they may like to observe first), some are hands on ( they absorb best when they are manipulating something with their hands), some are auditory ( they are good at listening to instructions). Kids are different; just like you and me. We adults do sometimes have the tendency to compare our kids and it's not really fair to the kids.

I have one or two kids in class who prefers to observe and that is absolutely fine. I appreciate that they are more comfortable observing while they learn. It doesn't mean they are NOT learning.

Bed time.....

Bedtime is my favourite time of the day! It's the time when Adam is calm, not distracted with TV or toys ( except his soft toys on the bed)....and the time when he speaks his mind. The saga of the stepmother continues.....

Mum, if you die....and daddy get a new wife...I will get a stepmother right?

Correct ( at least he understands what stepmother means)

Mum, if you AND daddy dies....will I get a stepmother and stepfather?

Hmmm...( scratch my head...how to answer?)

You will have Che che ( Amanda) and Kor Kor ( Alex) to take care of you.

I guess you can guess what's coming.

Mum, if you AND daddy AND Che che AND kor kor all die at the same time....who is going to take care of me? Kakak also die at same time...( stick out his tongue and rolled his eyes upwards for visual effects!)

Ee ee ( my sis) and Kaufu ( my brother) will take care of you.

But how do they know you die? You can't talk anymore.

Gosh...this is getting way too complicated!

The police will tell them ( will they? I don't know....)

How do the police know their handphone number?

Oh, you can give the police my handphone and the police can find Ee ee and Kaufu's numbers in my address book.

Tada.......end of questions.

Good nite.....

My Sweet 16 Birthday!

Was thinking of my sweet 16 birthday. I had a joint birthday party with a girl friend ( who is now a doctor in Penang) in my house with BOYS and girls - a dancing party! We both wore the same dress ( haha....) but different colour...and had flower pins on our hair. I told Amanda about my attire and she looked at me...speechless ( hehe....)

Still remember the dress...white in colour with pink flowers and of course pink flowers on the pin too ( must match right?)

I agonized over what I should wear for days, went window shopping ( I was living in small town Taiping so selection ain't that great), agonized over who we should invite, what food we should serve....looking back now, my mum is a saint to put up with me ( she still is now....)

I sms mum just now and reminded her of my sweet 16. She promptly said her granddaughter Amanda is much more matured than me at that age. Not FAIR ( stomp my feet!) Should I be angry or happy?

Amanda had a few friends over, made a humongous bowl of jello and yoghurt....and went out for a pizza dinner. Two of her friends slept over....they composed a song for her, gave her a CD...and a few small gifts...and she said, this is her best birthday celebration ever!

Well, my sweet 16 was pretty good too....memorable....( hey, that is why till this day I can remember what I wore)

Stepmother

Last night, when Adam was rolling about in bed - supposed to be asleep by then but having one of those talkative moments - asked me...mum, what is a step mother? I was a bit surprised to hear him say that word because I made a conscious effort not to read fairy tales to him ( because not realistic and can be frightening at times too)

He told me there is a step mother in Cinderella...( must have heard it in school)

Told him step mother is a new mummy if daddy marries again...

What happened to the old mummy. he asked? Die ah?

Maybe, I said....or don't want to stay with daddy anymore ( I was thinking....jeez, this is why I didnt want to read fairy tales to him)

Then came the question.....are you my step mother?

Daddy said...no, mummy is not your step mother, she is you real mummy ( what ever that means)

Adam: Are step mothers bad?

Daddy: No, not all....some bad, some are good.

Adam: Is grandma a step mother?

Mummy: Please go to sleep now!

Adam: OK, goodnite mummy.... I love you infinity!

Happy Birthday!

Today, 15th of April, is the birthday of Amanda (my no. 1 baby) - who turns sweet 16. Can't believe how time flies. It really seems like yesterday she came out from my tummy after 35 hours in labour ( Yes.....) She was born in the UK and in those days, c-section was not even given as an option though she wasnt engaged until I was almost 7 cms dialated! Anyway, she made it up by being the cutest. most angelic baby. It was a real joy to take care of her. She's a model baby....no problems eating, sleeping, played on her own. Ahh....I had it easy ( until the two younger boys came along!)

She turns 16 years old....no more model baby....but a model teenager?!? Got such thing or not? Hehe! She's a good girl, obedient at most times, stubborn though ( her dad's genes) and does a lot of things last minute ( like school projects - which gives mum numerous heart attacks) She sings and plays the guitar beautifully. Check it out : www.youtube.com/amandashiew

She will be taking her "O" levels in two weeks time. Then she will be starting life as a college student...and learning to drive....another big milestone in her life and ours.

Happy Birthday Amanda! Love you.....
